2024 Domestic Violence Awareness Month Report

October’s Domestic Violence Awareness Month was an incredible success, marked by a noticeable increase in community engagement and a passionate response to our advocacy efforts. For #DVAM2024 we were able to connect with nearly 1,000 community members through our programming.

Thank You to our Community Partners

The Cocoon would not be able to facilitate this successful programming without the dedicated support from our community partners. This DVAM, we would like to thank the following organizations for their dedicated support:

Paint the Town Purple

Thank you to the City of Bowling Green for allowing our team to place purple ribbons downtown throughout the month of October. The ribbons included information about ways to connect to The Cocoon and many downtown businesses displayed posters with information about local and national DV statistics.

Silent Witness Project

The Cocoon proudly attended the Northwest Ohio Silent Witness Project, honoring the lives of regional victims of domestic violence related homicides.

Clothesline Project

On October 16th, the Wood County Clothesline Project was displayed outside of BGSU’s Student Union. This powerful exhibit displays hundreds of t-shirts made by local survivors to represent their experiences being impacted by violence. This semester we connected with over 700 audience members.

“What Were You Wearing?” Exhibit

On October 23rd and 24th, the “What Were You Wearing?” Exhibit returned to BGSU’s campus with an updated exhibit highlighting the stories of 19 local survivors. The Cocoon aimed to bring conversations about the intersectionality of domestic and sexual violence and connected with nearly 120 audience members.
