24/7 Service: Select Option #2

Survivor Services

The Cocoon exists to provide safety, healing, and justice for survivors of domestic and sexual violence, their children, and all others affected by abuse. We also provide educational outreach services throughout the community. Our survivor services are provided at no cost.

To request services or to speak with an advocate, call 419-373-1730 and select Option #2. We are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Emergency Shelter

The Cocoon provides short-term emergency shelter for up to 90 days. We house single men, single women and survivors with children in our shelter facility. While in our shelter, survivors receive assistance with safety planning, goal setting, gaining employment, finding permanent housing, and more.

Children's Programming

We work to reduce the effect of trauma on children through onsite counseling, peer support, and age appropriate spaces and activities.

Transportation

The Cocoon helps to coordinate requests for transportation to medical, counseling, legal, and child-related appointments.

Case Management

Survivors are linked with an advocate from The Cocoon that will assist them in meeting a variety of needs by working with them to set goals, plans for achieving these goals and ways to reduce barriers. All services are provided in a way that supports empowerment and autonomy for the survivors and their family.

Safety Planning

Our advocates work directly with survivors to identify all steps and options available to address the survivor’s safety concerns and increase their feeling of safety for themselves and their children.

Medical Advocacy

When a survivor presents at the hospital due to a sexual assault or physical harm, an advocate can meet the survivor at the hospital to provide support and explain the sexual assault kit. Advocates can also provide information about HIV, STIs, pregnancy and medications.

Safe Pet Program

Survivors can bring their pets with them to the shelter, so they don’t have to choose between protecting themselves or protecting their animals.

Housing navigation

The Cocoon works with survivors to create housing stability plans. This includes assisting the survivor in getting connected to resources such as rent and utility assistance. The housing advocate spends time with each survivor to assess needs, help plan and connect with resources.

Title IX Navigation

The Cocoon advocates are available to support survivors as they navigate the Title IX process. This includes supporting them through every phase of the process, attending hearings and meetings and providing information.

Crisis Support

The Cocoon advocates are available to assist survivors through any crisis, whenever that may occur. An advocate is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Our advocates provide timely and empathetic responses and assist survivors as they move from the crisis stage through recovery.

Campus-Based Advocacy

The Cocoon provides assistance to students, faculty and staff at local universities and colleges as they navigate a domestic or sexual violence incident. This includes assistance with navigating Title IX, changing residence or classes and providing options. The Cocoon has an advocate located on Bowling Green State University campus at least 20 hours per week.

Prevention and Education

We offer a variety of community outreach services to organizations, schools and companies, including educational presentations, professional speakers, training programs and more.

Basic Needs

The Cocoon operates Butterfly Basics which is stocked with basic need items such as food and personal care products. Survivors currently working with an advocate can make an appointment to discuss their current needs.
