24/7 Service: Select Option #2

Recognizing 20 Years of Providing Safety, Healing, and Justice

We couldn't have done it without you! On June 14, 2005, The Cocoon Shelter welcomed its first survivor and her child, opening its doors through the determination of grassroot efforts, dedicated founding members and the steadfast support of the Wood County community.

Now known simply as The Cocoon, the organization has grown into Wood County’s only comprehensive emergency shelter and advocacy agency for survivors of domestic and sexual violence. Over the past two decades, The Cocoon has supported more than 8,000 survivors—and their children and pets—on their path to safety, healing, and justice.

And as we embrace this milestone in our history, we reflect on some of our most significant successes including:

  • Answering thousands of calls for help each year, each one representing one too many individuals experiencing abuse.
  • Creating safe and supportive emergency shelter for survivors, their children, and their pets.
  • Expanding services to include dual domestic and sexual violence services, an in-house 24/7 hotline, criminal justice advocacy, medical advocacy and youth-based services to more aid in our mission.
  • Creating partnerships with local school districts, universities, law enforcement agencies, healthcare systems and more to increase trauma-informed and survivor-centered approaches.
  • Providing affirming care to ensure that all survivors receive the care, respect and dignity they deserve.

Throughout the year, we invite you to join us as we reflect on The Cocoon’s impact, celebrate victories, honor the local leaders who have championed the movement to end violence and raise the voices of survivors. In addition to hosting several celebratory community and fundraising events, we will be sharing milestones and highlights across our social media platforms and in our monthly e-newsletter.

Thank you for joining us in standing with survivors and helping us honor this milestone year!
